WHAT'S HAPPENING by Susan Mangatal

Greetings To all among our on-line family:

We're in for a treat this weekend in the DC area.  On Saturday, October 23, 2004 Reggae Stars Capleton and Cocoa Tea will be performing at Kili's Kafe in Washington, DC, and you cannot miss this show.  At their last performance here in Maryland, they did a fantastic job.  Both of these artist are outstanding, so you must check them out.  Also on the show is one of our local favorites Soldiers of Jah Army!  Hope to see you there!!!!  Click Here for More Details.

Unfortunately the "Third World" show has been cancelled.  This Dynamic Grammy nominated Reggae Band was scheduled to perform on Sunday, October 24th, at the Funk Box in Baltimore.   Well, I guess we have to wait until they reschedule to see their great performance and hear their new music.

Also this weekend (October 22nd & 23rd and 24th) is the New Orleans, Louisiana Caribbean Carnival.  Since this is the last Carnival of the season and if you are in the area, check out this event.  Scroll down to view the ad for this event, or Click Here to enter the Events page for more details.

Your Feedback Is Needed!!!!

This pageant was created as a new venture to promote beauty, culture and tourism of the Caribbean.  The pageant system is designed to promote unity amongst the cultures of the Caribbean Community worldwide.  On Thursday, October 28th and Saturday, October 30, 2004 the organizers of this pageant will be hosting it's first Washington DC's Open Call.  Click Here for All the details on the Washington DC Open Call for participants who are interested in entering this Pageant!

World Clash 2004 successfully took place during Columbus Day weekend (October 8-10) in New York City.  Flair Lindsey, Publicist for Irish and Chin sent us some highlights on the event.  See Below!  Additionally, the CD for this exciting event is on sale.  To obtain this CD you can contact us here at Arious Entertainment todd@ariousentertainment.net and we will make sure Ms. Lindsey contacts you with the details.

Greetings:

The excitement surrounding World Clash Weekend 2004 is still brewing.  Sound clash fans are raving over the intense battle to the finish between Black Kat and One Love during World Clash.  Additionally, fans are reflecting on the personal/professional feud between Fire Links and Mighty Crown (hysterical at times) and the great performances of Jazzy T and Black Reaction during the 45 Shoot-Out.  Overall, the weekend is one to remember.  If your weren't at World Clash Weekend 2004, you can now re-live the unforgettable experience with the World Clash Weekend 6-CD box set.  This limited edition product is guaranteed to change the game, as it relates to sound clash audio.  Recorded in full surround sound, this dynamic set is a must have.  The CD-set will hit the streets this weekend.

As promised below you will find Part 2 of the artist "Sam'O's" interview!

TAKING A BREAK – WITH SAM’O

After a busy summer, Stephen Samuel (a/k/a SAM’O) is now taking a break to “. . . relax, work on promoting my new gospel CD, perfect a video for U.S. agents, and write some new music.”  We were able to catch up with SAM’O to ask him a few questions.  This is what he had to say.

INTERVIEW -- SEGMENT 2 OF 4

INTERVIEWER:    Around the D.C. area, we’ve seen you in some Calypso competitions.  But tell us about some of the other things you have done since you’ve been in the States.

SAM’O:       Well, this past summer, I was very busy with my music.  I performed for a number of festivals, some church events, some fundraising events, one for the Mayor of Alexandria, VA.  I performed at some local establishments around Alexandria, VA, a lot of pool parties, neighborhood gatherings and some private parties.

INTERVIEWER:    What was your favorite performance over this past summer.

SAM’O:       I love performing, so that’s hard to pick.  I think the festival I did at the Reston Town Center was really great.  It was outdoors and there seemed to be thousands of people watching me.  I did all types of music, and had the people dancing to Electric Slide, Soca and some other Soca music.  When I finished, they did not want me to leave.  The other was for St. John’s Church in Alexandria – they were having a community day and blocked off the whole street.  I was able to do some of my gospel music, some great Calypso and Soca music, some reggae, and some beautiful ballads.  Over a thousand people were at this one too.  I really enjoyed that when I performed some of my original Calypsos, like “The Dream” and “TATA” some of the children were trying to imitate the dances I do when I perform the songs.  It’s really a great feeling when I appeal to younger crowds.

INTERVIEWER:    Now, SAM’O, since you’ve been in this area, you entered two Calypso competitions in D.C., one in Baltimore, and recently one in Miami.  You placed second twice and third twice.  Talk to us about those competitions.

SAM’O:       The competitions are great fun.  They are a way of presenting my new music, and the competitions are a way for people to know me who did not know me before.  I have been disappointed with the decisions of the judges, though.

PART III – NEXT WEEK – SAM’O TALKS MORE ABOUT HIS MUSIC AND THE COMPETITIONS!!!
