Greetings On-Line Family

For the past several months we have been so focused on the many injustices taking place around the country, along with the different hate incidents/crimes, and all the hateful incidents with nooses, that our minds were taken off another major problem - THE CRIME WAVE THAT HAS BEEN PLAGUING OUR COMMUNITIES, and boy have they been escalating!!!! While we were fighting for justice, the murder rate has steadily been increasing.

Honestly, it never really left my mind, because on a daily basis I make it a point to focus on the newspapers and the news channels just to get an idea of how many lives were lost during a 24 hour period in the cities surrounding me.  The numbers of course have increased drastically (I believe in Baltimore it's approaching the 300 mark, and this week alone 8 people were killed already).  What's even more sickening is to know that the killings are still in our communities and is still being committed upon each other.

In my area, none of our elected officials have come up with a serious plan (or a plan for that matter) to decrease the murders and killings, which is a real shame.  It seems they are just happy being elected to their seats (sitting cute on their thrones), and has forgotten why they were elected.

Todd and I are completely distressed about this epidemic, and can only hope many of you share our feelings.  Tell me what can we do to help stop this madness...it is completely insane for this black on black crime to be happening, which to me is really self styled genocide taking place.  Share with me your thoughts, and what you are doing in your cities to help stop this craziness.

One city I must commend is "The City of Brotherly Love" - Philadelphia, who a little over a month did something to help with the violence that have been plaguing their streets (as of October 22nd approximately 321 people were killed).  Their local civic leaders had issued a call for 10,000 black men to come forth and volunteer to patrol and take back their streets; and I am glad to say according to several reports they had an overwhelming turnout on the rally and recruitment drive day (Oct. 21st).  More than 8,500 men showed up to volunteer, and approximately 6,000 had already signed up online.

I understand the plan for this "Call To Action: 10,000 Men, It's a New Day" is: groups of volunteers (a police officer will be included in each group) will be stationed on drug corners and other trouble spots in a bid to stop the shootings and other crimes that have given Philadelphia the highest homicide rate among the nation's 10 largest cities.  Of course members of each group will not be armed, will not have powers of arrest, and will be identified only by armbands or hats during their there-hour shifts.  They will also be trained in conflict resolution since they are intended to be peacekeepers and mentors, rather  than law enforcers.  The plan is that these peacekeeper patrols will take place every day for two - three hours for a minimum of 90 days in specially targeted areas, and is expected to be put in effect later this year.

For these 2 & 1/2 weeks since the call, orientations have been taking place, and currently they are continuing in and around Philadelphia.  Therefore, it is too soon to share with you the results these volunteer efforts have put out, but I will certainly keep you informed.  If you would like to register to be a part of the resolution to this epidemic in Philadelphia log on to www.10000menphilly.com for all the details

You know really, this is a good way to begin solving this problem nationwide.  To me this is a great effort, and I believe many cities should follow suit and try to take back their neighborhoods and streets.  What better way to do it with our own fathers, uncles, brothers, etc.

On many occasions I wonder what could be going through our youths minds, to do such ill deeds to each other.  Clearly they are not aware of where they came from, nor about the struggles their fathers, mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers endured throughout years past, they must be completely unaware of their history.  Many of you believe the rap songs have a major effect on our young society, but again if they are aware of their past, regardless of a rap song, in the back of their minds they would know not to kill each other.  Surly, if they knew, don't you think they will not be killing each other as they are doing now.  Let me know your thoughts...please!

Another major thing that might be a part of the problem, is that the strong family structure is non-existent.  For many years now single parenting has increased drastically.  Young mothers are bringing babies into this world alone, with no fathers by their side to help with raising their children (the Baby Mamma syndrome/era).  Gone are the days of having dad and mom working together, living together, having meals, especially dinner together with their children on a daily basis.  Sadly, this strong family structure that I am so fond of, and which myself and Todd grew up with is gone.  This structure means so much to us and so deeply instilled in us, that even though we do not have kids we have never gone a day without eating dinner together and talking over all the issues that transpired throughout our day.   Actually, this same principle still applies when we visit my in-laws, we all must have dinner together.

Anyway, these are two issues that may contribute to the problem that came to my mind, please share with me your thoughts on this, and how together we might be able to stop this madness.

Now, the reason why I choose to deal with this crime issue this week is because some friends and associates of mine need your help with solving a gruesome murder of a gentleman many of my associates was fond of.  Mr. Wayne L. Walker was a good father, a good worker and just an all round good person.   Mr. Walker was murdered a few years ago locally here in Washington DC, and his case has never been solved.  Even though his case is cold, his sister Cassandra and many of us feel someone out there may have an answer or a clue to bringing justice to this unsolved murder (Fact: 6000 murders are unsolved in DC).  There is a $25,000 reward being offered at this time.  See the details below, and if you know anything contact Detective Ralph Durant 202-727-6061.  Mr. Walker's sister (Cassandra) is extremely devastated over the loss of her brother, and has endured so much heartache and pain these past 3 years.  She is just seeking closure, and ask your help in obtaining it, so that this murder is solved.   Learn more about this via a MYSPACE site Cassandra has created regarding Wayne's murder www.myspace.com/waynelwalker.

This past weekend CNN broadcasted an excellent special on "The Noose". The investigative report called "The Noose: An American Nightmare" was broadcast on Saturday and Sunday last weekend.  CNN's Reporter Kyra Phillips investigated the noose, and she illustrated that it is indeed a symbol of hatred from America's dark past.  She focused on the shocking history of the noose and why it has re-emerged across the United States in places such as: a coast guard office, a New York police station locker room, a High school in North Carolina, a Home Depot in New Jersey, on the Campus of University of Maryland, in the mail that was sent to a NY high school principal, outside a post office in NY City's Ground Zero and hanging on the office door of a Columbia University Professor.

Ms. Phillips focused on the many lynchings (with of course the noose) that took place in America and throughout America's history.  She clearly shows the horror that took place throughout time that has undoubtedly been ignored in this country for centuries.  I must say she gave a great account about what the noose means and the impact the noose has had throughout America's history.

Ms Phillips while being interview about her story stated that she was personally amazed about the high number of people who did not know what a noose meant and what happened with the noose dating back to the 1800s. She pointed out how the noose was used to humiliate and punish black people - men, women and children who were beaten, burned, tortured and hung from nooses to punish, and humiliate with no reasoning for punishment.  This not only humiliated black people, but the black culture as a whole.  She further pointed out in her interview that she was amazed that being hung by nooses was a form of entertainment for white folks in America for many, many years.  Most importantly, she stated that these lynchings (being hung by nooses) are not a part of America's history books, and that students were not taught, or is currently not being taught about this part of history today throughout many parts of America.  She also stated that she feels embarrassed about this part of America's history.

What saddens me is that the suffering and being hung by nooses continued throughout the 1900s, and no one wants to admit to it or acknowledge that it even took place.  It seems as though it was ignored, and as if it was such a common practice that it was not even reported or documented...so hidden that it seems like it is a well kept secret.  How can these sufferings and lynches not be recorded?

I can't help but ask how can one hate so much that they treat a race of people in such an awful manner, take their lives away for fun, burn, beat, torture and hang them by nooses.  It all is so sickening.  How can America forget about this part of it's history, and not even record them in it's history books!  Unbelievable!!!

Well, for me this was a powerful piece, the pictures took my breath away, and the stories of the hangings and lynchings with the "NOOSE" throughout time simply made me sick to my stomach and again made me extremely angry.  Oh...it was so difficult for me to sit and watch these images, to see how our lives were less than nothing, to see how one group of people were/and is so still hated, to see the horror that we faced.  How inhumane and hateful...taking one's life by lynching for simply speaking to a person from another race, and mainly just for entertainment.  How atrocious!!!!

I only hoped our young ones were able to watch this piece, if this doesn't change their thoughts about hurting and killing each other, I don't know what else will.  According to the CNN site it seems this show might be broadcast again on Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 pm Eastern Time, but looking at it closely I think this was the advertising for last weeks broadcasts, so I really don't know if it will be replayed again.   To those who didn't see it, you absolutely have to, so please contact the CNN Network and ask  to get specific details on when they will replay this report.  If they do not intend to replay it, find out if it will become available.  You have to purchase it, because everyone absolutely needs to and must see it.  If you did see it, share with me your thoughts.

I have not gotten any reports about the results of the "Black Out" that took place this past Friday.  If any of you among my on-line family have any news, please share it with us - ariousentertainment@earthlink.net.

Taking place again this weekend is the "Enough is Enough Campaign"- The Campaign for Corporate Responsibility in Entertainment.  Their rallies/protests  continues taking place in Washington DC and New York.  If you have had enough with the negative images that are being shown on BET, then let you voice be heard by joining this campaign.  The “Enough is Enough” Campaign is against corporate sponsorship of visual images and lyrical messages that degrade women glorify violence and negatively portray blacks and Latino men as pimps, gangsters and thugs are now taking place in both Washington DC and  New York.
